Snowsuit Fund Launches 2009-2010 Annual Campaign to Provide Winter Clothing for Needy Children
OTTAWA, October 27, 2010 – The Snowsuit Fund officially kicked-off its 2010-2011 campaign by presenting the first official snowsuit of the season to one of the many children from the region who will come to the Snowsuit Fund for warmth.
“Almost 15,000 children will need our assistance this year” said Snowsuit Fund Chair, Susan Dennison. This need is underscored by the 474 snowsuits that were handed out last Saturday alone, prior to the official launch of the campaign. “That’s a new record for us and the demand seems to be growing, not diminishing. We are fortunate to have the support of Erin Phillips and some great partners in our fundraising efforts each year. I am excited and proud to kick-off our campaign to make sure that no child is left out in the cold this season.”
Early fundraising support came from the Smile Cookie campaign, an annual fundraising campaign hosted by Tim Hortons that raised more than $80,000 this year. “We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s campaign such an overwhelming success,” said Bill Kitchen and Lesley Holmes, Tim Hortons Restaurant Owners. “Raising awareness for the Snowsuit Fund through the Smile Cookie campaign opens the door to more community involvement and ensures that funds raised in our community stay in our community. That’s something we can all smile about!”
This season marks the Fund’s 29th year of serving thousands of families in need in the Ottawa region through the provision of warm winter clothing.
People who wish to make a donation of either a snowsuit – new or used – or cash may do so at any of the following locations: Canadian Tire stores, Brown’s Cleaners and the Snowsuit Fund Depot at 225 Donald Street. Cash donations may also be left at Bank of Montreal branches.
